EYFS – EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE
The Early Years Foundation stage is the curriculum we follow for all the children in the setting, the EYFS sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe, it promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.
We promote the Early Years Foundation Stage in the following way;
PRIME AREAS
Personal, social and emotional development
Making relationships with others, having self-confidence and self-awareness and managing feelings and behaviour.
“Begins to accept the needs of others and can take turns and share resources, sometimes with support from others”.
Physical development
Moving and handling and health and self-care.
“Runs skilfully and negotiates space successfully, adjusting speed or direction to avoid obstacles”.
Communication and language
Listening and attention, understanding and speaking.
“Listens to stories with increasing attention and recall”.
SPECIFIC AREAS
Literacy
Reading and writing. “Links sounds to letters, naming and sounding the letters of the alphabet”.
Mathematics
Numbers and shape, space and measure. “Counts objects to 10 and beginning to count beyond 10”.
Understanding the world
People and communities, the world, technology. “Seeks to acquire basic skills in turning on and operating some ICT equipment”.
Expressive Arts and Design
Exploring and using media and materials, being imaginative. “Beginning to make-believe by pretending”.
